What is industrial salt
Industrial (technical) salt is NaCl at 90-98% purity used for non-food processes. Significantly cheaper than food-grade (sometimes 2-3x), but with application restrictions due to allowable impurities.
Main types
Halite (rock technical salt)
Most common. Mined, minimally processed, NaCl 93-97%. Grayish or yellowish. Primary use: road de-icing.
Purified technical salt
NaCl 97-99%. For industrial water treatment (not drinking water), cooling systems, industrial washing.
Chemical industry salt
Special grades for chlorine/caustic soda production (chlor-alkali process), soda ash (Solvay process), dyes, textiles.
