How De-icing Salt Works
Salt (NaCl) lowers water's freezing point. A 23% solution doesn't freeze until -21°C.
Effectiveness by Temperature
0 to -5°C: 100%. -5 to -10°C: 70%. -10 to -15°C: 40% (mix with sand). Below -15°C: use CaCl₂.
Consumption Rates
Standard: 20-40 g/m². Heavy ice: 60-80 g/m².
